When it comes to art, the products used can make or break your outcome... BUT there are so many different kinds out there - where do you even start?! Depending on the type of media you want to use, higher end products aren't always necessary however I do try to recommend them.
Faber Castell Polychromo's are by far the best coloured pencils I have ever used... kind of knocking Prismacolor out the water... The pencils are so creamy and blend-able because of their oil base allowing you to create a seamless effect to any drawing. These are what I always reach for... I literally can’t rate them enough because they do everything and more of what you want them to do...
However for a beginner these pencils when I first brought them 2 years ago were difficult to grasp and can be overwhelming as there is so much to learn...

First of
all, there are sooooo many colours to choose from.... ranging from approximately
12 yellows to 20 greens - yeah... I know. Although at first this may be a
huge no no to a beginner, when you grasp how to use these pencils it's any
artists dream to have colours that you don't have to mix 100 folds over to get
slightly close to an eye colour...
I'm not
going to sugar coat it but these pencils cost an arm and an leg, and constantly
need replacing when you do larger drawings due to the amount of blending needed
for the smooth layering and oil effect... On the Faber Castell Website the tin
of 12 pencils retail at £14.99 and up the other end for the complete collection
of 120 pencils retail at £150.00! (http://www.faber-castell.co.uk/products/coloured-pencil/ColourPencilPolychromostinof12/110012)
I started
out using the 120 set and is definitely the better option if you're willing to
invest time into learning how to use these pencils. This is because you have so
much variety of opportunity to experiment with colour and learn how to use the
pencils properly which i feel like the smaller sets doesn't allow you to have
that much freedom to experiment.
You can
buy the 120 from Amazon and eBay for around £100 but just make sure they
are legitimate sellers before you buy! I usually just stick to my local Hobby
Craft when in need of buying individual pencils when I run out. I believe there
are £1.80 per pencil if I'm not mistaken...
I will be
uploading a video to explain what pencils to try out, or if you didn't want to
buy a set what colours I reach for most so you can choose which ones you
want to buy!
See you in my next post! I hope you found this helpful! Jade
