300 Word Statement.
Art can define who were are, our thoughts and our passions. James Cameron stated within his 1997 blockbuster ‘Titanic’ that Picasso’s work is “like living in a dream or something. There’s truth but no logic’. As a realism artist and illustrator, this quote from a master art movie has being hugely inspiring to me in the way that I see and appreciate art; just because there is no “truth” to you personally, there’s “logic” from the creator and their personal message. Concerning my personal work, I am fascinated by the way that celebrities are portrayed to society through social media. As a modern artist, I am fond in sharing my artwork through social media sites such as Instagram and Twitter, not as an artist trying to achieve fame, but for the response that I receive towards my drawings. Since posting my artwork to social media site Instagram and particularly twitter, I have noticed that certain celebrity drawings gain higher recognition from fans through my artwork than others. Because of my passion towards the way that the media presents celebrities to our younger generation, this helps support my theocracy of hierarchy celebrities having a bigger impact towards these people. Specializing in the medium of coloured pencils, I desire to expand my creative skills through a wider range of media, of which I believe that Fine Art Critical Practice can help me achieve this. However, Fine Art Critical Practice at Brighton University will not just benefit my creative skills, but also place a stepping stone towards my goal of teaching art to young aspiring artists, but to also help and make an impact on the way celebrities (in many cases, forcibly) are presented to society through today’s modern media.
